<title>Thursday, March 18th, 2010 - Mentoring Series at Metalworks Institute with Moneen and Brian Moncarz</title>
				      <link>http://www.torontoevents.com/index.php&#63;com=detail&amp;eID=6428</link>
<description>INFORMATION ON MONEEN and BRIAN MONCARZ
Hailing from Brampton, Ontario, Moneen formed more than a decade ago, in 1999. In 2005 Moneen split an EP with Alexisonfire on Dine Alone Records where each band covered two of the other band’s songs, plus an original song. That same year Moneen filmed a documentary entitled The Start to This May Be the End to Another, where they documented the recording process of The Red Tree. The Red Tree was released in April 2006 and the documentary was released as part of The Moneen DVD: It All Started with a Red Stripe in May 2008. The DVD was also nominated for a Juno that year. Moneen released their fourth studio album The World I Want to Leave Behind in September 2009.

Brian Moncarz has a deep passion for music and it is this love that allows Brian to get the best possible performances out of his bands in the studio. A musician himself, Moncarz’s list of credits include, Moneen (Dine Alone/Vagrant), The Junction (Universal Music), Kyle Riabko (Aware/Columbia), Silverstein (Victory Records), Pilot Speed (formerly Pilate, Maple Music), Rise Electric (featuring Lukas Rossi, EMI Publishing), Machete Avenue (Underground Operations/Universal), plus engineering gigs with Bob Ezrin and David Bottrill (Tool, Silverchair, Peter Gabriel).

With all of his hard work and dedication, Moncarz was able to land an engineering gig with producer David Bottrill (Tool, Silverchair). Brian worked on the We Are The Take album with Bottrill. Out of this relationship Brian and David decided to open a new studio together, and in the summer of 2008 Rattlebox Studios opened its doors. Once the new studio was open, Moncarz and Bottrill began co-producing the latest Moneen album, The World I Want To Leave Behind, an experience that Moncarz calls 'one of the most creative and positive projects of my career'. Currently Moncarz is recording a new album for Circa Survive (Atlantic Records).

				      <title>Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 - Fiddler On The Roof</title>
				      <link>http://www.torontoevents.com/index.php&#63;com=detail&amp;eID=6440</link>
<description>Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. It is based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Milkman) and other tales by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope with both the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters—each one's choice of husband moves farther away from the customs of her faith—and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.
The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964, was the first run of a musical in history to surpass the 3,000 performance mark. Fiddler held the record for the longest-running Broadway musical for almost 10 years until Grease surpassed its run. It remains Broadway's fourteenth longest-running show in history. The production was extraordinarily profitable and highly acclaimed. It was nominated for ten Tony Awards, winning nine, including Best Musical, score, book, direction and choreography. It spawned four Broadway revivals, a successful 1971 film adaptation, and the show has enjoyed enduring international popularity.

The show is funny and tender, the perfect evenings entertainment!
